Celebrant
celebrant good times
What do you offer?
I am a fun, joy-filled celebrant who loves telling couples stories. I pride myself on creating ceremonies as unique as you are.
Why do you want to work with the LGBTQ+ community?
Being a Humanist Celebrant is about empathy, respect and mutual understanding. And I live by that ethos - I avoid tokenism, hate stereotypes and find tropes around sexuality and gender profoundly boring. As a celebrant, I want to work to ensure couples within the LGBTQ+ never feel “othered” when planning their wedding.
Allyship
As I am early in my career it just so happens that the only wedding I have officiated so far was a lesbian wedding - so those are the only professional photos featured on my social media and website so far! I have further plans for clear allyship in my work, be that through ensuring there will be a strong NI humanist representation at local pride events, continuing to support LGBTQ+ couples who enquire to me and featuring and utilising queer suppliers where possible.
In my work as a celebrant I am always looking for ways to show up as an ally, be that in including my pronouns where possible, creating safe spaces in my work and understanding nuance in complex conversations. In my other role I have worked within the arts for the last 10 years - creating safe spaces and outreach offerings for diverse groups of young people; regularly working with those who identify as LGBTQ+, supporting them to tell their stories and advocating to have their voice heard.
