What do you offer?
Nikita here, auditioning to be your very own personal paparazzi on your special day (although not the kind that provoked Britney to get her umbrella out). As a filmmaker and professional content producer, I cannot wait to capture your big, fat, gay love stories while you and your guests unplug and immerse yourself in the moments that I'll be there to film.
Why do you want to work with the LGBTQ+ community?
I am Queer, Fat and Asian. I LOVE love, and I have spent the last year capturing content at cishet weddings, which feel incredibly gendered, and I don't always feel seen. The more I unpack my own thoughts and feelings around queerness and gender, the more drawn I feel to capturing and memorialising queer love stories because it is important that our stories are told.
Allyship
I attend protests in support of the trans community, regularly speak up on my social media (my TikTok account has 38,000+ followers and I have posted several videos advocating for the trans community, particularly in light of how they are being dehumanised, vilified and used as scapegoats by our so-called "world leaders" right now.)
I am always educating myself (currently reading Who Is Afraid of Gender by Judith Butler) and having conversations with family and friends who may not understand or hold bigoted views to encourage them to unpack these ideas and think about where they have learnt this nonsense. I contribute financially to mutual aid when I can, and focus my efforts in particular on trans/non-binary people of colour in need of support.
I also run a community group called "Fat Liberation London", which is a safe space for fat people to exist and socialise in London, a haven in an anti-fat world. The vast majority of our community (myself included) are queer, and we have become a soft landing place for the fat queer community in London. We are in the process of putting together our own "fat block" for protests in support of Palestine, the trans community, the disabled community and more. As well as being a safe space, we are an educational space, and we host film clubs, book clubs, and we recently had a sex in a fat body workshop. All of these events are not only educational about fatness but also around queerness, as the two things can be so closely intertwined for many people.
I am asexual, and I'm involved in an asexual community support group too. We host potlucks, film nights, crafternoons and more fun things! I also always offer my pronouns in any situation when meeting new people in order to make sure others feel safe to share theirs.
I stand up for queer and trans people whether they are in the room or not, and I spend a lot of time educating myself so I'm well-equipped for these conversations. I also recognise that there is always more I can be doing and I'm constantly learning!
don't forget to let me know that you found me on Rebel Love Directory!
