Three people stand together during an indoor ceremony. A person in a gold embroidered jacket and glasses appears emotional, holding a microphone and a piece of paper. Another person wearing dramatic makeup, glasses, and flowing yellow, white, and purple garments rests a hand supportively on their shoulder. A third person, facing them, wears white attire. Soft lighting and seated guests are visible in the background, suggesting a formal or celebratory event.

What do you offer?

My name is AJay (she/her) and my hair is blue… welcome to Blue Jay Photography! I offer candid and colourful photography across the midlands, celebrating your uniqueness and personalities through a bold colours and emotive black and white edit style. My approach is unobtrusive and chill, centring you and your guests in a way that helps everyone feel seen and safe.

Why do you want to work with the LGBTQ+ community?

I identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ community myself. I’m always enamoured by the grace and beauty within the queer community, and often feel the most safe and creatively inspired when working with LGBTQIA+ clients.

Allyship

The learning is never done and I absolutely don’t claim to do everything right - I very much want to cultivate a safe space where couples and clients can give feedback if I do something wrong or can improve. I work exclusively with female or LGBT second shooters to advocate and uplift their businesses. I also do pro bono photography work for queer charities and collectives such as Fatt Projects and Art Thou Ok, Bab?

So far what I do is feature every couple I shoot in some way - every couple deserves the spotlight (consent permitting) and I think I’m developing a diverse portfolio celebrating queer, same sex, trans, and interracial love stories naturally throughout my site and socials. I welcome couples to tell me their pronouns in my enquiry form (if they are comfortable doing so) and am working on my inclusivity pledge which will have pride of place on my website very soon.

don't forget to let me know that you found me on Rebel Love Directory!
