What do you offer?

We have two beautiful church buildings in Brighton which are both authorised wedding venues. A member of our ministry team will work with you to develop a bespoke wedding ceremony which reflects your beliefs and values, allowing you to complete both the legal and ceremonial aspects of marriage in your service.

Why do you want to work with the LGBTQ+ community?

One Church Brighton celebrates the queer members of our community and are proud to be a place of worship that offers marriage to all. We believe that everyone who wants a church wedding should be able to enjoy one, in the style and language that feels right to them. We love to develop orders of service which blend different faiths and traditions so that everyone can express the spiritual aspects of marriage in ways that are meaningful and authentic.

Allyship

We have many LGBTQ+ members of our church community, including on staff and at board level and we draw widely on the work of queer theologians. Every year we have a presence outside our city centre building cheering on the Brighton Pride community parade, which was started in response to a counter protest at Pride. When it became possible for places of worship to register for same sex marriage our members voted overwhelmingly in favour and we have been vocal advocates for LGBTQ+ inclusion within our denomination. We also run youth work with LGBTQ+ young people across Brighton and Sussex.

We fully acknowledge that the church as a whole has caused a huge amount of harm to the LGBTQ+ community and it is important to us to both keep responding to the needs of our queer members and being active allies beyond our immediate community. We continue to collaborate with other churches and charities, for instance hosting a prayer meeting before the Brighton Trans Day of Remembrance vigil in November, in partnership with Queer Christians Brighton. We are delighted that some members of our church community have been able to get married here who never thought that a church wedding would be possible for them, but we would love to offer that more widely, for those who are looking for it.
