Colourful Indian-Inspired LGBTQ+ Wedding at Southport Market

Our Queer Love Stories: Alice & Nav

At Rebel Love Directory, we’re all about celebrating love in every colour and form it takes - especially when it comes to LGBTQ+ couples rewriting what weddings can look and feel like. Our Our Queer Love Stories series exists to do just that: to share the stories of real queer couples, the incredible suppliers who help bring their days to life, and the representation our community deserves to see in wedding media.

This week’s feature comes from Alice (she/her) and Nav (she/her) - a couple whose wedding was a vibrant celebration of culture, colour, and connection. Their story was shared with us by Esme Whiteside Photography, a recommended Rebel Love Directory supplier and proud advocate for LGBTQ+ representation in the industry. From Southport Town Hall to a lively party at Southport Market, Alice and Nav’s day was filled with bold colours, cultural fusion, and an entrance to remember.

Can you paint us a picture of your proposal?

Nav reached out to Esme (our wedding photographer) and asked for her help to plan a surprise proposal on a local beach. Esme was fantastic and skilfully planned the whole thing to take place during golden hour for the best pictures ever!

Let's get on to the big day. Where did you get married?

Southport Town Hall followed by a party at Southport Market.

Was there an overall vibe you were going for?

COLOUR! Nav is Punjabi and grew up attending Indian weddings which are always followed with vibrant colours. Alice loves bright, happy colours and so together wanted our day to be filled with joyful and bold colours.

Were there any traditions you put your own twist on?

We did our best to combine both of our cultures - so as well as all of the traditional English parts of the day; we chose to wear traditional Indian dresses, we had traditional Indian drummers & we danced to Bhangra!

Tell us about the suppliers you chose from the Rebel Love Directory and your experience with them - if you didn't use the directory, that’s absolutely fine, please do still let us know your thoughts on any stand-out suppliers from your day!

Esme started off as our engagement photographer 2 years ago but quickly became close friend. She meticulously captured all of the special moments of our day - weaving them together to tell the story of “us”! Esme was fantastic at taking the burden off us - allowing us to simply enjoy our day. From directing the guests during the group photos to quietly taking us away for a walk where she gave us space to really take in the day (whilst capturing some incredible couple’s photos). We cannot thank her enough for her professionalism, kindness & hard work!

If you could live one moment from your wedding on repeat, what would it be?

Our “grand entrance” to the party. We had two dhol (drum) players leading us into the venue as “crazy in love” played - the mashup was insane!

Closing Thoughts

Alice and Nav’s day was a riot of colour, culture, and pure joy. From a heartfelt proposal captured by their photographer to a celebration that merged traditions and identities, their wedding was proof that love thrives when it’s allowed to be authentic and loud.

Their story also highlights the power of working with inclusive, LGBTQ+-affirming suppliers who truly get it - like Esme Whiteside Photography, who captured their journey from proposal to party.

We’re so grateful to Alice & Nav for sharing their story, and to Esme for nominating them as part of Our Queer Love Stories
